Dental Sedation techniques
The Flagstaff Clinic has been providing specialist oral surgery care in conjunction with both intravenous and inhalational conscious sedation techniques since 1990. Treatment under sedation is carried out in our dedicated unit under the care of experienced dental surgeons and medically qualified sedationists, together with a trained support team.
Sedation is defined as the use of one or more drugs producing a state of depression of the central nervous system enabling treatment to be carried out but during which verbal contact with the patient is maintained. At the Flagstaff Clinic we successfully treat thousands of patients each year under conscious sedation. The techniques used will calmly manage anxiety and fear, prevent pain and discomfort and also produce amnesia with respect to the treatment session. Patients will complete treatment before being moved to the recovery room where they normally have little or no recollection of the actual surgical treatment and have a sense of wellbeing and comfort.
Patients receive post treatment supervision in the separate recovery facility. Postoperative antibiotics and analgesics are normally prescribed as required before the patient is discharged home with their accompanying escort.
